Carolyn began studying painting in the 1980's when a friend recommended a small studio offering classes. Dring that time, she studied under Henry Hensche, a world-renowned impressionism artist whose classic technique shines through her work. Under his guidance, Carolyn gained extensive knowledge on topics like the color mass approach and how to incorporate natural light into her paintings. Carolyn also paints in plein-air, meaning she paints her still life oil pieces outside in natural light. By studying objects under specific lighting, and observing the color relationships in the lighted areas, shaded areas, and cast shadows, the subject can be portrayed accurately within the existing atmospheric conditions. This kind of painting leads to a lifelong study to take what you know to be true through observation and how to apply it to the canvas.
“My love is still life, ‘the arrangement of truth’, as Hensche described art. I like to see a common object raised up to fine consideration in oils.” -Carolyn Biggio
